I provide bespoke services that are relevant and developmental. I know what is needed due to my own significant experience leading schools and supporting a range of Local and Trust Boards as a Governance Professional. I have been teaching and leading in education for 28 years across London and Staffordshire and was a Headteacher then Executive Headteacher for the last 13 years at several different sized schools. As with any leader, I have taken opportunities to learn from both positive and challenging times to form the knowledge and experience I can now draw on to help, support and enable others who are leading and governing in education.
The world of education is always evolving. Yet, what doesn't change is that fundamentally strong leadership is required to navigate this, whatever the setting. Education is quite rightly held to account, with the expectation being that successful outcomes are achieved through continuous improvement. But how? And by whom? I established 'ethically led' to provide personalised help and support for those who govern voluntarily and leaders employed at every career stage to feel motivated to do this, and be able to do this - now and into the future.

I enjoy developing leaders at all levels and seeing them fly. I am very proud that all the Deputy Headteachers I have worked with as a Headteacher have progressed into their own successful headships.
However, education is short of leaders at every level with teachers understandably concerned about balancing their personal well-being and overall work satisfaction with the relatively minimal financial benefits of career progression through educational leadership.
There are also fewer people volunteering to become governors or trustees due to the responsibility and accountability of these roles in addition to their own work-life balance. This is often combined with a misconception that an educational background would be preferable, meaning we have a wealth of untapped potential that could impact positively on the outcomes of all children.
My vision for 'ethically led' is therefore to secure succession in educational leadership by encouraging, enabling and empowering:

I named my consultancy ethically led in acknowledgment of the Seven Nolan principles which are the ethical standards expected of public life. They underpin our motivation, but leading ethically can sometimes be challenged by the external pressures facing education.
As a leader, and now through 'ethically led', the values I work by are:
Claire Evans
